Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude: Which Fits Which Company

Microsoft Copilot is built into Microsoft 365 and works with the organisation’s data through Microsoft Graph, while ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude are products of AI model vendors. The choice depends on where people work and how many there are: Copilot suits mass adoption by department in a Microsoft 365 environment, while ChatGPT or Claude suit selected advanced users and senior managers.

What is the main difference between Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude?

Microsoft Copilot is Microsoft’s assistant, built into the Microsoft 365 apps and connected to organisational data through Microsoft Graph; its access is limited by the user’s permissions (Microsoft Learn). Its experiences differ by licence, by data grounding and by integration with the apps (Microsoft Learn).

ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude are products of AI model vendors — OpenAI and Anthropic. Claude Team and Enterprise are offered as a workspace for the web, mobile apps and desktop app, with connections to Microsoft 365 and search across the organisation (Anthropic).

The table compares the three on criteria that matter to companies. ChatGPT entries are flagged for manual verification. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and is updated when the products change.

The criteria are taken from the vendors’ documentation and pricing pages, not from third-party marketing material.

When is Microsoft Copilot the better fit?

Microsoft Copilot is the better fit when people already work in Microsoft 365 and the goal is for AI to reach many of them at once. Then it is an advantage that Copilot uses the same permission model as the other Microsoft 365 services and shows only data the user can access.

Admins can also manage the retention of history through Microsoft Purview, and Microsoft states compliance with the GDPR and the EU Data Boundary (Microsoft Learn). This simplifies the conversation with the security team.

For mass adoption by department in large companies, Encorp AIM offers a separate Microsoft Copilot track, and for training — Microsoft Copilot training. Licences are a separate question: terms and prices are checked with Microsoft before budgeting.

Copilot is also a natural choice when the IT department already manages Microsoft 365 centrally: the same admins and the same policies cover the new tool.

When are ChatGPT Enterprise or Claude the better fit?

ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude are the better fit when the goal is not mass adoption in Microsoft 365 but work for a selected group: advanced users and senior managers who need a more flexible tool for analysis, writing and research. This is the tool-agnostic track of Encorp AIM.

Claude Team is for teams of 2 to 150 people, and Enterprise adds SCIM, audit logs, role-based access and control over data retention (Anthropic). For ChatGPT Business and Enterprise the comparable details are <данни за ChatGPT Business/Enterprise от сайта на OpenAI>.

Training is separate for each tool: ChatGPT training and Claude training. If you are not sure which tool you need, the AI Strategy Sprint is where the choice is made against your processes.

This choice is more flexible but also needs more management: there are fewer users, so it is easier to track and train them by name.

What should we check before buying?

Before choosing a tool, go through the questions in the table. They are the same for every vendor and are checked in the contract and the documentation, not only on marketing pages.

Also check how the training of the people who will use the tool will be recorded — this is part of the AI literacy obligation under Article 4 of the EU AI Act; see the Article 4 guide.

Do not skip the practical questions: who in the company will administer the tool, how access requests will be handled and what happens to the data when an employee leaves. These are often more important than the feature list. Ask for the answers in writing and keep them with the contract. Also review the vendor’s terms for processing personal data, especially if employees enter information about customers.

Questions for an AI tool vendor
QuestionWhat to check
Data used to train modelsWhether prompts and responses are used for training and whether this is off by default
Access rightsWhether the tool only shows data the user is entitled to
Administration and sign-inWhether there is SSO, central administration and role-based access
History and retentionHow long data is kept, who can search and delete it
Minimum seats and licenceWhat the minimum number of seats is and what is required of existing licences
Price and usage feesPrice per seat, annual or monthly payment, usage fees beyond seats

How do we read prices and licences?

Vendors publish prices in US dollars and change them; so no figures are given here. Claude Team and Enterprise are charged per seat per month or year and exclude taxes, and on Enterprise usage at API rates is added to the seat price (Anthropic).

Microsoft Copilot comes with different licence levels: Copilot Chat (Basic) is included with eligible Microsoft 365 licences and works mainly with web data, while the Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on licence gives access to work data and to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote (Microsoft Learn). Microsoft and OpenAI prices are <цени и лицензи на Microsoft и OpenAI — от ценовите страници>.

Before budgeting, ask for an offer in euro including VAT from the vendor or the licensing partner — the only way to compare the three on the same basis.

How do we choose a tool in Encorp AIM?

Encorp AIM has two tracks: the Microsoft Copilot track — mass adoption by department for large corporations — and a tool-agnostic track with ChatGPT, Claude and others for selected advanced users and senior managers. The choice is part of the initial analyses in phase 1 and of the AI Strategy Sprint.

Both tracks are led by an AI Director and can be combined across teams. Packages are for a team of up to 20 people and are sold on results, not hours — see AI Transformation Packages.

An example of the logic: in a finance department with many Excel and Outlook users in Microsoft 365, Copilot is the natural choice; for a small group of analysts and directors who work with documents from different systems, ChatGPT or Claude may fit better. The example illustrates the logic and is not a recommendation without an analysis of your environment.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the better choice for a company that works in Microsoft 365?

Often Microsoft Copilot, because it works inside the Microsoft 365 apps and shows only data the user can access (Microsoft Learn). Another tool can be added for a selected group of advanced users. The choice, however, depends on the group that will use it.

Is our data used to train the models?

With Microsoft Copilot — no: prompts, responses and Microsoft Graph data are not used to train foundation models (Microsoft Learn). Claude Team and Enterprise do not train on content by default either (Anthropic). For ChatGPT Business and Enterprise the terms should be checked on OpenAI’s site before deciding.

How many seats do Claude Team and Enterprise need?

Claude Team is for teams of 2 to 150 people, and Claude Enterprise has a 20-seat minimum (Anthropic). Terms change — check them on the pricing page. Before buying, check the terms for your plan, because the vendor may change them and they differ between Team and Enterprise.

Can we use more than one tool?

Yes. Encorp AIM has two tracks: Microsoft Copilot for mass adoption by department and a tool-agnostic track for selected users. The choice is made team by team, not for the whole company at once. This way each team works with the tool that fits its work and data.

How much do the three tools cost?

Vendors publish prices in dollars and change them, so they are not listed here. Ask the vendor or a licensing partner for an offer in euro and compare on the same basis. This way you compare the three on the same basis, including VAT and the minimum-seat terms.
